Phillip Alvarez is the founder, CEO, and CTO of Norden Labs, a U.S.-based company building sovereign AI vision systems for defense, infrastructure, and other mission-critical industries, designed to run on the edge wherever connectivity and compute are constrained. He pairs a Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Maryland with roughly a decade of work spanning AI research, edge computing, and real-world deployment. Earlier in his career, during and after his doctorate, he worked in startup accelerator and consulting settings where he helped found companies, raised over $500,000 in early funding, and developed innovations across the medical, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors. His track record includes NIH and NSF SBIR awards, published work into the biomedical space tied to AFRL/AFOSR, and computer-vision pilots shipped into Fortune 500 manufacturing companies.

Before founding Norden, Phillip helped drive the 0→1 launch and operational scaling of xFoundry. There, as associate director and later head of products and ventures, he architected its multi-month venture competition and worked with its technical team to develop AI-powered support tools, helped guide winning student teams alongside Fortune 500 mentors, and built partnerships with NASA, Intel, industry, and university leadership. He was also an XPRIZE Wildfire semifinalist with Team Crossfire, working at the intersection of wildfire detection and edge AI innovation. He went on to help found Norden Labs, where he worked with Norden Labs’ team to develop the company’s end-to-end “factory” for contextual vision AI, spanning its Sarab synthetic data, VisionEdge training, and SimQC validation pipeline, along with product lines including Ember for wildfire detection and Talos for drone-based reconnaissance in communications-denied environments.
