The biggest challenges do not stay in their lane. Neither should we.

The biggest challenges do not stay in their lane. Neither should we.

Complex challenges demand more than one discipline, one sector, or one way of thinking. xFoundry created NEXPLORE to bring leaders from industry, government, higher education, and investment together to challenge assumptions, share perspectives, and develop novel approaches.

Across six focus areas, we’ll explore the questions shaping what comes next and the opportunities that emerge when different perspectives come together.

2027 Focus Areas
Each focus area gives the room a shared challenge, then surfaces the question that different disciplines and perspectives can help unpack.
01

Predictive Digital Tools

How do we trust a machine's recommendation, without surrendering our own judgment?

AI can increasingly anticipate what we need and recommend what we should do next. The more accurate those recommendations become, the easier it is to rely on them, even when the stakes are high.

02

Infrastructure Inspection with Robotics

When the machine and human disagree, who decides, and who is accountable for what happens next?

Autonomous systems can inspect the bridges, utilities, and infrastructure we depend on faster, more often, and without putting people in harm's way. But spotting a problem and deciding what to do about it are two different things.

03

Human Performance Monitoring

What happens when machines can predict our failures?

We can predict when a machine is approaching failure and intervene before it happens. Now we're beginning to do the same with people, detecting fatigue, stress, and declining performance before the person themselves may know.

04

Adaptive Training

How do you train for work that has never existed before?

Some of our most experienced workers are retiring with decades of knowledge that was never written down. At the same time, emerging technologies are creating jobs, tools, and missions no one has encountered before.

05

Solution-Based Investments

What if capital organized around problems instead of companies?

Most investment starts with a company and asks whether it can grow. Grand challenges suggest a different starting point: begin with the outcome that needs to change, then find and fund the solutions that can change it.

06

Context-Aware Media Literacy

How do we understand what information is trying to do, not merely whether it's true?

We were taught to ask whether information is true or false. But in a world of synthetic media, algorithmic feeds, and content engineered for attention, something can be completely true and still be designed to manipulate us.

two days Built for action

01.

Keynotes & fireside chats

Industry and agency leadership set the stage, providing the context for how we look toward the future and focus on step one simultaneously.

02.

Expert panels

Experts map how grand challenges actually get solved, and how thoughtful, targeted, and sustainable solutions travel from classroom to lab to community to market.

03.

Live student pitches and voting

Student teams from across the country pitch the problems they believe are most worth solving, and the room votes. Winning briefs become the starting line for the $2M Xperience competition.

04.

Networking and collaboration

High-impact networking is built into the schedule to spark ideas, find collaborators, and leave with partnerships that expand beyond the summit.
